On June 3, the Friends of Berczy Park held a Pet-Lovers Day when dog owners were invited to bring their pets to the park and the new dog area.
One of the area’s features is a gravel section—with a draining and filtering system—where dogs are encouraged to do “their business” in a clean and tidy way. Also, the new fountain is not a swimming pool for dogs; pet hair and dirt will damage the delicate fountain mechanisms.
Sponsoring the day, with dog and people treats, were local businesses Pet Valu, Tim Hortons, Northern Biscuit and Urban Dog. Friends of Berczy Park have more than 900 supporters signed up. The group is asking people to adopt a park tree and be responsible for keeping it sufficiently watered.
The park will officially re-open on June 28 from 3-7 p.m. with the opening ceremony at 5 p.m. sharp.
The next Pet-Lovers Day is July 8 from 9:30-11:30 a.m.—D.H.
