Local witnesses told The Bulletin that six rounds of gunfire shattered the noon-hour peace today (Sept. 15) at Parliament and Mill streets as at least one police officer opened fire on an allegedly stolen Toyota Corolla believed to be headed south on Parliament.

The bullets are said to have come from police in hot pursuit of the car and its driver.

No one was injured and an arrest was made. The car was corralled between a pair of cop cars.

Traffic on Parliament was immediately cut off by police tape and remains that way as of 1:30 p.m. as detectives continue to investigate.
