The City of Toronto Historic Sites present several events in March that provide enriching entertainment for all ages while connecting visitors to Toronto’s rich history.

Drop in for a tour of the historic house and a children’s activity celebrating the 100th anniversary of a famous High Park landmark. Make it a day in High Park for you and your family! The Lodge is located close to both the Jamie Bell Adventure Playground and the High Park Zoo.

100th Anniversary of the Howard Memorial Gates

Sunday, March 23, Activities begin at 12:45 p.m., Parade at 2 p.m.

The City of Toronto is pleased to invite you to the 100th anniversary celebration of the Howard Memorial Gates at High Park Blvd. and Parkside Dr. Enjoy a parade of dignitaries including representatives of the IODE, the 48th Highland Pipe Band and Scout troops from the area. Local community and park groups will lead activities and host exhibits. Admission is free.

Celebrate the gift of High Park throughout the afternoon!

Join the High Park Walking Tour Group for a history walk. Meet at 12:45 p.m. at the benches south of the Grenadier Restaurant, walks ends at the parade location at 1:45 p.m.
Starting at 12:45 p.m. in front of the Jamie Bell Adventure Playground, beside the parade location, the High Park Nature Centre will hand out family scavenger hunt cards. Fill in one line, return with your card by 1:45 p.m. and you will be eligible for a prize!

Fort York War of 1812 March Break – Families, children ages 3 to 12 years

March 10 to 14, 10 to 3 p.m.

Bring the kids down to the Fort during March Break for some fun-filled activities. Families can learn about Fort York and the War of 1812 through colourful exhibits, costumed education staff, tours and 1812-related activities. Children can dress up, try cooking in the kitchen, practice musket and sword drills like an 1812 soldier or learn about music from the War of 1812. There are lots of timed and ongoing activities to make this a fun and educational day for the whole family. Souvenir guides and audio tours are also available in our Museum Store, which carries a wide selection of souvenirs and books for all ages. No registration required, regular admission applies.

Tea and Tour Sundays

There’s a seat for you at the harvest table in the historic kitchen on Sunday afternoons this winter. Relax and have a chat over tea and homemade cookies. Enjoy a tour of this lovely, 1850s farmhouse. Included with regular admission.

Pay-what-you-wish Thursday Nights

5 to 8 p.m.

Go back in time to a winter’s eve, circa 1851. Have some tea and sit by the fire in the kitchen, play board games and enjoy chatting with those around you. All ages are welcome (children must be accompanied by an adult). Activities vary so check online at www.facebook.com/gibsonzion.  Admission is pay-what-you-wish.

“Keeping You in Stitches” – A Knitting and Crochet Social

Every Sunday afternoon from 2 to 4 p.m.
Join us in the parlour for a relaxing afternoon of knitting and crocheting. All ages and skill levels are welcome! Bring your own projects from home or try out one of our fun patterns and add something to our #yarnbomb. Extra needles, hooks, corkers and yarn for practice and experimentation will be available. Free to participate but donations are always welcome.

Community Quilt Group Get-togethers

Thursday Nights, 6 to 8 p.m.

Relax and meet new friends while you improve your sewing skills. We invite members of all ages from North York’s diverse communities to join us for informal evenings of learning and sharing. You’ll explore both historic and contemporary quilting techniques in a comfortable, social setting. Work on a group project or pay a small fee for materials and make your own piece. Even if you have never picked up a needle and thread before you are welcome to join in. FREE.

Spadina is pleased to host a major exhibit of costumes from one of the most popular and critically acclaimed period dramas ever produced – Downton Abbey.  The exhibit features 20 costumes from the production, a selection of dresses and accessories from the City of Toronto collection of the same era and Downton-themed tours of the restored house. In addition, visitors to Spadina on Wednesday, Saturday or Sunday, may book a Downton-inspired Tea with your exhibit ticket at selected times. Tour Tickets:
