For the past 15 years, Helen Coltrinari and her neighbours have gone out “caroling for cans” in Cabbagetown. “It started way back, when CBC radio was still on Parliament and started its first food drive,” she reports. “The tradition continues and though our route is short we collect about 500 pounds of food and about the same in cash.”
The carolers plan to donate the food and funds to a local food bank at the corner of Sherbourne and Carlton.
Look for Coltrinari and her fellow singers on Dec. 7 from 7 to 9 p.m. Their route follows Winchester to Metcalfe, turns east on Carlton, and finally turns north on Sumach, back to Winchester.
