Robert Conway, pastor at St. Bartholomew’s at 509 Dundas East in Regent Park, really does want socks for Christmas. Conway reports that one of the most valuable resources for the homeless and most vulnerable during the winter months is a fresh pair of socks. “For several years, I have encouraged businesses and people in the community to donate socks and have distributed hundreds of pairs of socks especially when it rains and snows. As a result, I have been nicknamed Father Socks.” To contribute, phone (416) 368-9180. The church, through donors and volunteers, serves over 20,000 hot meals annually, operates an emergency food bank twice a week, and provides space for an after-school program.
