Volunteers (with cameras) needed for Yonge St. heritage inventory

The Bay Cloverhill Community Association and the Church Wellesley Neighbourhood Association have put forward a call for volunteers to help create an inventory of Yonge St.’s remaining heritage buildings.

The project requires a commitment of approximately 30 to 40 hours over a nine-month period. The organizers are hoping that twelve to twenty volunteers will step forward. Ideally, volunteers will reside in the groups’ catchment areas.

Duties will include collecting information about the buildings on Yonge St. from the Toronto Archives and other sources. Volunteers will also be asked to take photographs of buildings along the east and west side of Yonge St. from Carleton and College, north to Davenport.

There are approximately 250 buildings in the study area: it is estimated that each property will require two hours of research time.

Volunteers will report to a chairperson and will be trained by a member of the consulting firm that will be hired to coordinate the Heritage Conservation District study for the Historic Yonge Street area.
