That means that there was no “sneak attack gambit at 4am.” This also invalidates the writer’s claim that residents were awoken by the construction work at 4am, and the further claim that the TPA was proceeding “quickly…before it was caught by the city.”
Secondly, the work, when it did start at 7am, was not ‘contrary to city law’. This was confirmed to Councillor Adam Vaughan by City staff, apparently after your writer left the site. Subsequently, city staff confirmed that the TPA may continue with work, as scheduled.
My understanding is that those protestors who did stay received a debrief from the councillor about the TPA’s right to continue doing work.
The TPA is planning to build a taxi staging area in the Malting Lands at the request of the community and the councillor. It is this area and the parking lots that, I understand, are subject to site plan approval. In other words it is the very thing the community has long sought—a solution to the taxis—that is being held up.
The TPA has every intention of respecting the site plan approval process, and is hopeful that we can work with the community to make sure there is no unnecessarily delay in implementing the taxi plan.
