On Mar. 20, the City’s Community Council deferred site plan approval for the Toronto Port Authority’s (TPA) parking lot and staging area for construction of its $82.5 million tunnel to the Island Airport.

Site plan approval is required by law for construction of the parking lot and staging area to commence.

Rather than await council’s approval, as it is required to do, the TPA has ignored it, and is proceeding with construction.

This is typical TPA arrogance.

Outraged by the TPA’s actions, community members will demonstrate at 8 a.m. tomorrow (Friday) at Queen’s Quay and Eireann Quay/Bathurst Street to let the TPA know their actions are unacceptable to the City and to the communities affected by their aggressive airport expansion.

Unbelievably, the TPA is proceeding with construction BEFORE it has consulted with the communities affected on its Construction Management Plan – it has scheduled a meeting(with short notice) for March 28. This fact was one of many that led the City’s Community Council to make the decision it did.
