Thousands of people spilled out into the streets at rush hour November 18, due to a shutdown of the subway system.  Police erected barriers and tried to contain the sea of people emanating from the underground.  Traffic was stopped and officials estimated that several thousand people were stranded at the corner of Yonge and Bloor well into the evening.
