MPP Murray schedules community planning meetings

Toronto Centre MPP Glen Murray has organized a cluster of neighbourhood community planning meetings throughout the riding this month.

The goal of the series is to create a better community by getting participants involved in the Toronto Centre Community Action plan, which proposes to “hear what works in our community and what needs to be improved, identify community and government assets and create opportunities for leveraging resources, explore how current community plans and initiatives can work together, and bring together community members, non-profit groups and government officials to work together and identify priorities.”

It is hoped that a community plan will “develop long-term solutions for critical challenges, fully explore the assets of our community, and reduce the ‘silo’ effect between government initiatives.”

The series starts on Nov. 8 with a meeting focused on Corktown and Distillery District at Enoch Turner Schoolhouse at 106 Trinity St. from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

A St. Jamestown meeting will follow on Nov. 9 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the offices of the Yonge St. Mission at 225 Wellesley St. E., Unit 4B.

The St. Lawrence Neighbourhood will be discussed on Nov. 17 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the OWN Co-Op at 115 The Esplanade, while Cabbagetown takes the spotlight on Nov. 24 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Cabbagetown Youth Centre, 2 Lancaster Ave., off Parliament St. behind the Beer Store.

Regent Park rounds out the sessions on Nov. 25 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Regent Park Presentation Centre community room at 500 Dundas St. E. The meeting will be accessed via the west building entrance.
