Le Paradis

Annabelle Goodman —

Le Paradis is an authentic French restaurant that has been a popular Annex visit for a long time. You have to have a reservation. The food is fantastic and the service is always attentive. On this occasion we were so fortunate that Patricia was our server. She was so delightful and helpful all evening. She certainly knew the menu and was helpful with the wine selection. It was my son and daughter-in-law’s anniversary. They were so sweet to ask me as their guest at this restaurant of their choice. I arrived early and ordered the wine beforehand. It was the least I could do.

The Pois Casses was their choice for a first course. A large bowl of pea soup with ham was a great beginning. On other occasions I have enjoyed the Verte Spring Salad with a spring mix, tomatoes and house dressing. It is a light refreshing beginning for a meal. The Betteraves au Chevre Frais is great for lunch or an appetizer at dinner. Beets, goat cheese and mesclun are highlighted with citrus vinaigrette. Moules a La Mariniere is always a popular dish. Many tables seemed to be enjoying this as a starter or a light meal. The cultured mussels are steamed in white wine with garlic and onions.

Cassoulet is a French classic dish. It was filled with white beans, duck confit and bacon and topped with a large Toulouse sausage. A side order of Frites was immediately demolished. My son was delighted with the fresh Dore a L’Annis. Pan roasted pickerel was served with a fennel veloute. Our charming server highly recommended this dish. She told us the fish is delivered fresh daily. Fennel and other vegetables were served with the fish.  I knew that Saumon a L’ Oseille was always great. The fish is perfectly prepared. It was moist and tasty. I loved the sorrel butter sauce. Green and yellow beans with sautéed mushrooms added to the splendor.

Boeuf a la Bouruignonne has a great aroma and is a French classic dish. The beef is braised in red wine, bacon, pearl onions and mushrooms. Jarret d’ Agneau au Romarin offers a lamb shank braised with red wine and rosemary. Many delicious choices await you.

The Crème Brule was a generous portion. It was so yummy. The three of us delved into it and couldn’t stop until it was finished. We also enjoyed the Flourless Chocolate Cake. It was outstanding. A large portion of gooey, chocolaty, rich chocolate cake was instantly devoured.

This is a popular restaurant in the Annex. It is always busy. I have been coming here for over 30 years. Fine authentic French food is guaranteed. I always look forward to gourmet dining that offers economical prices. Le Paradis is a neighborhood gem.
