Michael McIsaac, a 32-year-old Wellington West resident and lawyer at Beard Winter LLP—as well as a two-time Ironman who has raced in over 30 triathlons—will embark on a marathon swim across Lake Ontario, totalling 51 kilometres and approximately 20 hours of swim time on Aug. 21.
McIsaac has dubbed his swim “Crossing for a Cause” and is doing it in support of the Douglas Wright Foundation, which focuses on fighting melanoma by educating Canadians on early detection and preventative strategies. The initiative has already raised $76,000 and they hope to raise $100,000.
The swim will begin at 9 p.m. in Niagara-on-the-Lake. McIsaac plans to finish on August 22 at 4 p.m. at Marilyn Bell Park, 851 Lakeshore Blvd. W. If the wether is inclement, McIsaac will make the attempt on Aug. 28.
The foundation was created to honour McIsaac’s friend Douglas, who succumbed to melanoma at the age of 29.
