Alterations okayed for Church heritage sites

Dennis Hanagan —

Community council recommends city council approve alterations to heritage sites at 628, 634 and 636 Church St. north of Charles St. E. The alternations would be part of a proposal seeking a zoning amendment for a 47-storey mixed-use building with retail at grade and 408 condo and 20 rental units. There would be 5 levels of underground parking for139 vehicles. The heritage buildings would be integrated into the new building, and a building at 638 Church would be demolished for vehicular access. City staff recommend council designate the heritage properties under the Ontario Heritage Act and enter into a heritage easement agreement with the property owner “to ensure their long-term protection.”
