Insomnia

Annabelle Goodman —

I am surprised at myself for not trying this restaurant before. There it has been right in front of me. I have passed it so many times. It was recommended to me recently by a friend. I was attending two films at the Bloor Hot Docs Cinema and had to find a place close by for lunch. There it was, right across the road. Obviously others knew about it because it was crowded. The sweetest young women looked after us with smiles as wide as the street. The menu was very inviting offering many tasty options. The prices are all so affordable.

I was most impressed with the Prix Fixe Brunch all for $15.00. A Fruit Bowl or a Mini Waffle is offered as a first course choice. Classic Peameal Eggs Benedict, Eggs Florentine or Eggs Isabelle is main course choices. If you have room a Salted Caramel Cupcake or Pink Velvet Cake are dessert choices.

Dinner Prix Fixe is only $25.00.  Tacos or Hummus are some of the fist course choices. Walnut Penne, Chicken N’ Waffles are a few of the main choices. Dessert is a part of the deal.

My friend and I were having such fun watching the plates being delivered to the tables. We both commented on the attractive plating. The portions were enormous and everything looked so appealing. Those chunky sweet potato fries looked so tempting.

We were rushing to a film so wanted to eat lightly and quickly. The Arugula Salad with honey roasted pear was terrific. I loved the peppery taste of arugula. The vinaigrette was light and refreshing. The poached pear was sweet and so tasty. It was all topped with goat cheese and roasted pecans. I loved every bite.

My friend enjoyed her Kale Salad with shredded carrots, sugar snap peas, pine nuts, sprouts and a tahini lemon sauce. What could be healthier? We were energized and satiated but not overly stuffed. We had no intention of falling asleep during our film.

I was most impressed with the gluten free and vegan options. Great for Insomnia for offering gluten Free Bread as an option.

Honey Lavender Chicken Supreme and Grilled Salmon are full entrée suggestions for hungry folk. Vegetarians will enjoy the Wild Mushroom and Lentil Shepherd’s Pie with a Parmesan crust.

I look forward to returning soon to this spot right in my neighborhood. I might have waited a long time to go there but it will be in the near future when I return. I love fresh food that is appealing and appetizing.
