How the 1% of 1% celebrate a 15th birthday

Frank Touby —

It’s how the 1% of the 1% in Texas live. Don’t ask me why, but into our email at Toronto’s Journal of Downtown Toronto, The Bulletin, came this splendiferous news release from a Manhattan PR outfit. As editor, I assumed they want me to publicize this event, known to Latinos as a Quincerañera, or coming of age (15) to a flowering girl in San Antonio. Since it doesn’t relate to life in Downtown Toronto, or downtown most places, I wondered about deleting it.

But then in the spirit of economic ecumenism I decided not to discriminate against the superrich (unless they’ve become super-poor paying for this event) and herein share their joy of spending a bundle on their pretty daughter. She is squired by a guy who doesn’t get much airplay because he’s really just arm candy for Maya Henry, daughter of Azteca and Thomas J. Henry, a lawyer with a hugely rewarding practice.

Maya Henry reaches the mature pinnacle of 15 years.

But let’s let Norah Lawlor pick it up from here since she’s getting the big bucks for publicizing Maya who:

celebrated her ‘journey to adulthood’ with a star-studded Quinceañera in San Antonio, Texas.  Entertainers included international recording artists Pitbull and Nick Jonas from the Jonas Brothers as well as eclectic dance group Gen 8 and traditional Mariachi band Mariachi Azteca de America. Maya’s father, founder of top personal injury law firm Thomas J. Henry Injury Attorneys, did everything to ensure the night would be a huge success for his daughter’s party; he brought in New York social event planner David Monn and his team of 150 to orchestrate the lavish fiesta.

Maya looked stunning in a pale pink bespoke Rolando Santana gown with a fitted bodice and a full skirt. Her makeup was done by celebrity makeup artist Patrick Ta who has previously worked with Gigi Hadid and members of the Kardashian family. The photography surrounding the event was performed by renowned photographer Donna Newman, who has a portfolio ranging from Matt Damon to First Lady of the United States, Michelle Obama. Needless to say, everything down to the smallest detail was carefully thought out and reflected the ‘celebration of life’ theme that the Henrys and Monn wanted to create; among these were 30-foot tall cherry blossom trees in full bloom to accentuate the springtime feel. The unforgettable private event was attended by many of San Antonio’s social and cultural

elite, who rejoiced with Maya and her family in the celebration of her Mexican heritage, commitment to family, friends, tradition, and community.

In San Antonio, Maya Henry’s name is synonymous with philanthropy and community engagement. Following in her father’s footsteps, she has worked with numerous charities including the San Antonio YES Foundation where she helped distribute school supplies to children in need throughout the San Antonio area. Maya also launched Maya’s Corner in 2010, which is an endeavor to promote and assist causes benefitting children.

This young San Antonio socialite has also demonstrated wisdom and drive well beyond her years in her athletic success as well as her interest in politics. Although only a freshman in high school, she has already positioned herself as a regular on the Texas Tennis Championship circuit. She has also volunteered for one of the nation’s top presidential candidates in order to learn more about the American political system. We are beyond excited to follow this beautiful and brainy young lady who has emerged from San Antonio to become one of 2016’s most fascinating IT girls!”
