The Mental Health Commission of Canada:

The First Five Years of Work

The issues around mental health are slowly emerging after years of hiding under a stigma of disgrace, misunderstanding and misdiagnosis.  Depression, autism, bi-polar disease are becoming familiar terms.

But what can we do to support mental health not just treat mental illness.

One man who has risen to the top of his profession because of his understanding and communication of mental health is Dr. David Goldbloom, Chair of the Mental Health Commission of Canada.

Through the 90’s, Dr. Goldbloom rose in the ranks of his profession to become the first Physician-in-Chief of the newly created Centre for Addiction and Mental Health and then Senior Medical Advisor, Education and Public Affairs, at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health. He has won numerous awards including in 2012, the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee medal for service to Canada. In 2012, he was appointed Chair of the Board of the Mental Health Commission of Canada.

He is also a Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Toronto.
