Phase 2 of the rehabilitation of the Gardiner Expressway- West Deck from Strachan Avenue to Bathurst Street continues.

Crews recently completed work on the southernmost lanes of the Gardiner. Work will now shift to the north lanes of the Expressway.

Start Date: August 19, 2015
Expected End Date: July 30, 2016 (timeline is subject to change)

This rehabilitation work is necessary to renew our aging infrastructure and brings this section of the expressway to a good state of repair. The project is part of the Council-approved $900 Million 10-year rehabilitation program of the Gardiner Expressway.

Work Details

Stages 1 and 2: COMPLETE – crews have removed and replaced the old concrete deck along the centre and southernmost lanes.

Stage 3: For seven weeks starting March 21, 2016 crews will saw cut the deck and concrete barrier wall and remove concrete from girders and between the shear studs using jackhammers by hand. Work is at the northernmost lanes of the Expressway (westbound lanes). This phase of the work is very loud as crews are using jackhammers and operating heavy machinery to remove the old concrete deck and south barrier wall from this section of the expressway (see images).
