On Aug. 27, kids from the Cabbagetown Youth Centre’s Performing Arts Camp held their end of summer concert. Over 1200 kids from St James Town and Cabbagetown participated in the event titled ICONIC, “a night of dance, drama, music & art displays” organized by program coordinator Monique Caine.
To top off the evening, the youth centre was presented with $100,000 from the Universal Youth Foundation chair Mario Cortellucci and treasurer Doug Armstrong. The donation will contribute to the youth centre’s revitalization during efforts to raise funds for a new facility.
George Smitherman, TDSB education director Kellie Leitch, and trustees Gary Crawford, John Hastings, and Soo Wong were also in attendance.
Centre executive director and Downtown resident Spiro Papathanasakis was recognized by Smitherman as “the champion for kids in this city.”
Local resident Angela Jonsson is hoping to raise funds for the centre by running in the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront marathon. To make a donation, visit http://my.e2rm.com/personalPage.aspx?SID=2300521
