East Bayfront, North Keating projects advance to Municipal Board

Dennis Hanagan –

Developers’ concerns about providing affordable housing in the East Bayfront and North Keating projects will be heard in January at the Ontario Municipal Board (OMB) if city staff can’t reach solutions with developers before then.

In an August report to city council its legal department said that in the two precincts private landowners have raised concerns regarding their development options.

Along with the city’s requirement to provide affordable housing other issues to be discussed include building height, tower location and park dedication.

The OMB hearing is scheduled to start Jan. 19 and run to Feb. 13. In an attempt to resolve issues, both city and Waterfront Toronto staff have continued a series of meetings with the appellants to find “reasonable grounds for settlement,” said the report.

Supporting a motion by councillor Pam McConnell council directed the city solicitor to report back to council on Dec. 11 about any potential resolution the city might reach with the landowners before having to go to the OMB.
