Linda McQuaig was selected March 1 as federal candidate for the Toronto Centre branch of the New Democratic Party.
In a message to supporters she wrote:
I want to sincerely thank everyone who joined us at the Toronto Centre nomination meeting yesterday – we’ve taken the first, important step in our fight to win in 2015. Now the real work begins.
I am deeply honoured to be your candidate. Thank you for entrusting me with this important challenge. And thanks to my nominators – Angela Zhu, Fred Hahn, and Pam McConnell – and to special guest speaker, Peter Tabuns.
For those unable to attend, you missed a packed room, amazing energy, and an entertaining performance by Toronto councillors Joe Cressy and Mike Layton, who demonstrated how painless fundraising can be.
In fact, as Joe pointed out, a recent academic study shows that if you volunteer on an election campaign, you add three years to your life; if you volunteer and donate to a campaign, you can add five years to your life.
