Berczy Park gets springtime makeover thanks to its Friends

Dwight Peters –

Residents and community friends of St. Lawrence dropped into Berczy Park on a sunny Saturday on May 18 as part of the annual clean up day hosted by Friends of Berczy Park (FOBP).

Over 17 volunteers assisted by St. Lawrence Market BIA helpers gathered to give the park its spring make-over. The energetic group set up and painted the popular bistro style tables and chairs, cleaned up the winter litter and installed three new flower planters.

It wasn’t all hard work. Kids, dogs and even some adults had their images outlined in chalk and lemonade was served to all the dedicated volunteers. Visitors quickly took advantage of this refreshed community space, including a duo of mallard ducks who now occupy the fountain.

FOBP is a group of resident volunteers who create and implement unique ideas that encourage use of the park as a community meeting place. For more information, visit berczy.wordpress.com.
