Good Shepherd Centre is preparing a roast beef dinner with all the trimmings for 1,600 people. 70 volunteers will help serve roast beef with gravy, real mashed potatoes, vegetables, dinner rolls with apple pies and chocolates for dessert. Volunteers will also distribute a gift to each guest, and others will help make beds and sort donated food. In all, 80 volunteers help to make this special day possible.
“All our volunteer positions for Christmas and Boxing Day were full two months ago,” says Br. David Lynch, BGS, Executive Director of Good Shepherd Ministries. “The support we receive from the community – the food is donated and the meal is entirely served by volunteers – is extraordinary. It is a real comfort to our guests to see how much people care.”
Our grateful thanks to all the wonderful donors and volunteers who made it possible for Good Shepherd Centre to serve 397,982 meals in the first 11 months of 2012 – an increase of 14% over last year, and average of nearly 1,200 meals each day.
Good Shepherd Ministries promotes and protects human dignity by providing a wide range of services for the homeless and disadvantaged.
