On February 24th, 2007, University Settlement is celebrating the Chinese Lunar New Year. This celebration has become a valued tradition at University Settlement throughout the years. The agency would like to welcome Toronto’s very diverse communities to enjoy this unique cultural celebration. Celebrating the New Year remains a highlight of the season at University Settlement.

Featured Activities and Agenda:

  • Greetings from Olivia Chow (MP), Rosario Marchese (MPP) and Councilor Adam Vaughn (12:30pm-12:45)
  • Dotting of the Lion’s Eye (12:45-1:00pm)
  • Cutting of the Golden Pigs (1:00pm-1:25pm)
  • Lion Dance, Chinese Kung Fu & Performances (1:25pm-2:25pm)
  • Visit from the God of Wealth (2:25pm-2:40pm)
  • Booths with traditional arts & crafts
  • Refreshments

Founded in 1910, the history of University Settlement demonstrates the creative response of a community agency to the needs of its clientele. Throughout the years University Settlement has responded to the changing needs of the community with socially appropriate and accessible programs. As part of a diverse community, University Settlement strives to meet the social, economic, and cultural needs of its neighbours and users through: Community Development & Social Services, Daycare, Employment & Training, ESL & Language, Music & Arts School and Recreation programs.
