Transit consultation to focus on congestion, Downtown relief line

Metrolinx is hosting a public roundtable session on Feb. 9 from 1 to 3 p.m. at Metro Hall, Room 308, as part of the Big Move consultation process.

The Big Move has already started to impact Downtown transit projects: the revitalization of Union Station, two-way all-day service for GO Transit, and GO Lakeshore Express rail service are already in the works.

In addition, the Union Pearson express rail link is on track for 2015.

The proposed Downtown Relief line (DRL) is also being planned to accommodate as many as 107 million riders by 2031.

The DRL will provide relief to the transit system and provide residents with new rapid transit service into the Downtown core. The line is also required to support the Yonge Subway extension to Richmond Hill.

Many riders will shift to utilize the Downtown Relief Line, leaving room on the Yonge-University-Spadina line.

The estimated capital cost to construct the DRL is $7.4 billion.

Registration for the roundtable is optional. To register, call (888) 480-2546. Visit www.bigmove.ca for more information.
