Toronto Laneway Project launches photo contest

The Laneway Project has launched a city-wide photo contest, encouraging Torontonians to channel their inner urban photographer and capture what they love about Toronto’s laneways.

Running through Nov. 23, the photo contest aims to illuminate the beauty, character and untapped potential of Toronto’s laneways. Contestants can post their photo on Instagram, Facebook or Twitter with the tag #lanewayforwardcontest, or submit them to:  info@thelanewayproject.ca. Contest rules are available here.

The winning photo will receive a cash prize, and the top 10 finalists will be displayed at The (Lane)way Forward Summit and Exhibit on Wednesday, November 30 at The Great Hall, alongside six other laneway-inspired art and experiential pieces including:

 The LaneWAY – Laneway Futures TO

 Project Human – Laneway Crawlers

 Inverted Valleys – Mark Francis

 Laneway Adult Colouring Book – Adrian Hayles  Every Laneway: An Ongoing Documentation – Owen McCabe

 Laneways of the World VR – The Laneway Project

The (Lane)way Forward is the third annual Toronto Laneway Summit and Exhibit, featuring a discussion between five notable panelists who will explore the challenges, opportunities and next steps for Toronto’s 2400 laneways, as well as a DJ, food and a raffle with prizes including gift certificates to The Drake, Fresh and SPiN Toronto. Tickets are available for $12 online or for $15 at the door.

For this year’s summit we’ve invited laneway photographers, artists and thinkers from across the city to explore the potential of Toronto’s laneways. It’s going to be amazing to see all these different projects in one space.

About The Laneway Project

The Laneway Project is a planning and urban design not-for-profit focused on transforming Toronto’s vast network of laneways into safe, vibrant, people-friendly space. Founded by two “urbanpreneurs” in 2014, The Laneway Project leads demonstration projects to improve and activate laneways throughout the city, works with City staff to create laneway-friendly policies, and supports communities in undertaking their own laneway improvement projects.
