Top real estate companies step up for their community

An ambitious group of professionals from five major real estate companies joined forces yesterday to support United Way and conquer the steps of five landmark towers in the Financial District. Among the groups scaling over a combined 260 flights of stairs were Brookfield, Cadillac Fairview, Dream, GWL Realty Advisors and Oxford. Funds raised from this event will support United Way’s network of over 200 community agencies that provide vital services and programs for people and families across the city.
“This is a tremendous initiative by Brookfield, Cadillac Fairview, Dream, GWL Realty Advisors and Oxford,” said Susan McIsaac the President and CEO of United Way Toronto. “I’m inspired by their enthusiasm and commitment to making a real difference in the communities where we live and work. This is a unique way to create opportunities for people across our city. On behalf of all Torontonians, I thank you.”
The Real Estate Climb for United Way event, the first of its kind, attracted over 200 climbers who share a common goal of making a difference in the community. Participants tackled the steps of four participating buildings in the Financial District: First Canadian Place, TD Centre, TD Canada Trust Tower, and Commerce Court West. Others opted to face the challenge as part of a group, taking part in a relay climb at the Scotia Plaza.
“We are excited to host this first-ever event that brings together the real estate community to help raise money in support of United Way Toronto,” said Jan Sucharda the President and Chief Executive Officer of Brookfield Canada Office Properties. “Climbing the five towers that define our city’s landscape is a step forward to help meet the urgent needs of the people of Toronto. The generosity and support of our corporate partners, employees and volunteers have all contributed to make this a successful event.”
In addition to supporting community agencies, donations are also invested in United Way Toronto’s efforts to develop strategies to strengthen neighbourhoods and promote long-term change.
