TCHC relocations to Rivertowne panned

Dennis Hanagan –

Moving Regent Park residents temporarily to the Rivertowne neighbourhood isn’t fair to the latter as it tries to build a stable community, says Councillor Paula Fletcher.

“The notion is to create a new, healthy stable community,” she told community council in February, referring to Rivertowne.

But having people move in and then out again “is a very unfair proposition for Rivertowne. We’re trying to build a new community here,” she said.

Regent Park is undergoing Phase 3 of its redevelopment. In the interim residents need to relocate.

When possible, TCHC’s policy is to relocate residents into newly built units within their redeveloped community. However, in some cases residents are temporarily relocated to another TCHC community.

TCHC pays moving and other related costs, provides packing materials and arranges the move. In the end, all residents have the right to move back to their community when revitalization is complete.

Riverside, a mixed-income community east of the Don River, officially opened in July 2008 and was a revitalization of the former Don Mount Court.
