The 2014-2015 school year begins Sept. 2, and for the first time, all Toronto Catholic District School Board elementary schools will be offering a Full-Day Early Learning Kindergarten Program.

“We share the province’s commitment to early learning, and are pleased that all children and their parents will be able to enjoy the benefits of the full-day kindergarten program this fall,” says TCDSB Chair Jo-Ann Davis.

This is the fifth and final year of the roll out, and the response from families has been overwhelmingly positive.

“Preparing for the board-wide implementation of the program was not without its challenges as the Board responded to an unprecedented need for school construction and renovation throughout the summer,” says Director of Education Angela Gauthier. “Our facilities department is to be commended for ensuring that these construction projects are moving forward in a timely manner.”

All 168 TCDSB elementary schools will offer full-day learning in September, however there are a few construction projects that will not be completed in time for the first day of school. In those local situations where work will continue into September, contingency plans are in place to accommodate all the students with minimal impact to program delivery. Parents are encouraged to visit the board’s website at www.tcdsb.org for information.

School offices have been open since August 25th to deal with last minute registrations, and schools will continue to welcome new families as classes begin next week. TCDSB wishes all students, staff and their families a successful and happy school year.
