Sword St. community celebrates streetscape

By Linda Weichel —

swordDuring the Cabbagetown Festival on Sept. 12, Sword Street. residents celebrated the streetscape revitalization of their community with an official ribbon-cutting ceremony and party.

The ribbon was symbolically cut by a wooden sword hand-carved by a Cabbagetown resident, which was lent to Sword St. for the occasion.

Coun. Pam McConnell spoke to the residents prior to the ribbon cutting, recognizing Sword Street resident and organizer Anne Pastuszak for her leadership in the group’s efforts to transform the streetscape.

The revitalization took place late last fall. New paving stones were laid, new plant boxes were built and new trees, hedges, and hostas were planted, all courtesy of the Clean and Beautiful City initiative.
