Police poseur snatching nightclub purses

The Toronto Police Service is investigating a man allegedly stealing personal belongings in the club/Entertainment District area of downtown Toronto.

It is alleged that the suspect:

– targets women who leave their personal belongings unattended, stealing their purses and cellphones,

– is using imitation police equipment to identify himself as a police officer to gain entry into the bars.

Members of the public who frequent the Entertainment District are asked to be very careful when dealing with their personal belongings and anyone who may be touching or sorting through their property.

In addition, club and bar owners are asked to pay special attention to individuals purporting to be police officers. Police officers, as part of their sworn duty, carry and will provide upon demand suitable and appropriate identification when requested.
