The Toronto-based photographer has been working on series of water-related projects, including the award-winning documentary ‘Watermark’. Burtynsky is also championing the work of Lake Ontario Waterkeepers.

“I’m especially troubled by the dangers the expansion will bring to our waterfront and our lake,” Ed Burtynsky remarked. “Waterfront Toronto’s work towards rejuvenating our waterfront is the kind of good decision-making we need – putting jets on our waterfront isn’t.”

“Doubling passenger numbers at the Island Airport will also add to an already congested downtown”, the photographer and artist added. “The lack of proper infrastructure planning and public transit would be compounded by the planned expansion.”

NoJetsTO is a coalition of concerned citizens dedicated to preserving Toronto’s mixed-use waterfront and a boutique Island Airport. Representing residents across Toronto, the non-partisan organization NoJetsTO opposes the expansion of the Island Airport through jet aircraft and extended runways. NoJetsTO’s goal is to preserve the status quo at the Island Airport by protecting the Tripartite Agreement that governs it.
