Toronto Islanders gird for new Polson Pier noise war

Frank Touby —

Toronto Island residents are girding themselves for an earthquake from across the water. Richard Kulis, owner of the ultra-loud Guvernment booze & music emporium on Queens Quay at Jarvis, has bought Polson Pier which plagued Islanders with loud music until city hall put the kibosh on it years ago.

Now the new owner wants restrictions on noise levels and hours of operation amended to, in the view of Islanders, plague them with music across the water from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. 7 days a week.

The problem Polson Pier faces won’t go away. Instead of being able to blast music across the water and only annoy the odd boater, it’s situated so that the racket from the hard-party venue travels unabated across the water and into the ears and dwellings of Island residents.

They are launching a response to this latest assault on their peaceful enjoyment of their homes and lawns and hope the LCBO, which is being petitioned by Kulis to ease the current restrictions, will rule out changing the rules for Polson Pier.
