Hydro wall gets ‘spruced’ up on May 2

hydroHydro One’s plans to beautify the utilitarian new barrier wall in David Crombie Park along Frederick and Sherbourne streets will be presented to the community during Pam McConnell’s annual environment day on May 2.

While the final landscape plan, including some final wall and streetscape details, is still being reviewed by the city under an encroachment permit, the project is nearly shovel ready. For example, a large spruce tree will be ready for planting during the festivities.

Hydro One landscape architect Paul Shelton reports, “Along with the evergreens which provide bird cover we will be planting a number of Downy Serviceberry along the south edge of the park. These trees (known for their early spring flowering) not only provide forage for birds but the berries are great for making wine and pies.”

Shelton continues, “It was great to hear positive comments on the wall and that it is meeting the expectations of the community.”

The final landscape plans will be on display on May 2, Shelton concludes.
