Free concert of Renaissance & Medieval music for Advent

Renaissance and Medieval music celebrates Advent, Friday, December 9, 7:30 p.m. at St. Basil’s Church, University of Toronto, 50 St. Joseph Street (at Bay Street).

The Musicians In Ordinary – soprano Hallie Fishel and lutenist John Edwards – join the Schola Cantorum of St Michael’s College directed by Michael O’Connor; violinist Christopher Verrette and the Pneuma Ensemble (www.pneumaensemble.com), which performs on medieval instruments.

The concert includes plainchant, Cantigas de Santa Maria from 13th century Galicia/Portugal, and works by Italy’s Claudio Monteverdi, England’s Orlando Gibbons and William Byrd, and more.
