Esplanade cafe to close early

A boulevard café on The Esplanade will have to close at 12 a.m. weekdays and weekends following complaints about noise.

Community council made the closing-time decision for The Tilted Kilt, located at the Esplanade and Scott St., at its Sept. 8 meeting.

Council approved a motion by Ward 28 Councillor Pam McConnell that “the café … be closed and cleared of patrons at 12:00 a.m. seven days a week.”

Community council has delegated authority from city council to make the final decision.

Residents at the London-on-the-Esplanade condo overtop the café complained about noise. A letter to community council from resident representative Jim Stewart, board of directors president for TSCC 2035, had asked for a closing time of 11 p.m.

The original closing time was 2 a.m. Stewart said there had been reports of “escalating noise levels” as the evenings and drinking progressed.
