Dog owners seek Roundhouse Park area

‘We propose the city fences in the mostly un-used circular area above the Enwave truck entrance with a proper two door entrance and garbage can for dog owners. The dog park would be accessible 24 hours per day, 365 days per year.’

By Name Withheld —

DogWalkDozens of dogs and owners use Roundhouse Park to socialize every day. People come from the
Inifinity, Waterclub, Riviera, City Place, and other condo buildings as far West as Yonge St. There are
also owners who come from the Soho area. We usually stay in the area closest to the Steam Whistle
brewery because it is far away from the road and has many garbage cans to deposit poo bags. Despite
the brand new sign warning dog owners to keep their dogs on leash, everyone lets their dogs run loose
because they NEED exercise and are restless at home until they get a good run every day.

The demographics of the park include:
– Dog owners
– Tourists taking pictures of the CN Tower and downtown core
– Fitness groups exercizing in the North West corner (Bremner & Lower Simcoe), and roller
blading around the paved pathway
– Small groups playing frizbe and soccer
– Small groups sitting at picnic tables near Steam Whistle
– Homeless people sleeping overnight in the area above the Enwave truck entrance (proposed
dog park area)
– Public drinkers and drug users who hide in the trees and area above the Enwave truck
entrance (proposed dog park area) and who leave bottles, boxes and garbage on the grass.
The park is now under construction to create a train museum and possibly a miniature train track for
kids to ride on. Once construction is completed, dog owners will definitely no longer be able to
exercise and socialize their pets in the area we currently use.

We propose the city fences in the mostly un-used circular area above the Enwave truck entrance
with a proper two door entrance and garbage can for dog owners. The dog park would be
accessible 24 hours per day, 365 days per year. Part of this area is already fenced in, and the
circumference walls are a good foundation for the rest of the fence.

We’ve seen the proposals for a dog park at Little Norway Park and Coronation Park. These would be
great for people who live in that area but it is too far for us. We take our dogs out at least a few times
per day.
