For the third year, St. Lawrence’s Dixon Hall Community Centre won the award for most participants in the Toronto Challenge, an annual Walk/Run supporting many Downtown seniors’ organizations. This year’s event took place on June 13, with celebrations before and after the event at Metro Hall.
For the past three years Dixon Hall has won the award for most participants. For the past two years Dixon Hall runners and walkers also included the oldest participant at 94 years old and the youngest at 4 months of age.
Dixon Hall offers many social services through its community centre at 58 Sumach St., as well as in-house personal support/care services to seniors at Old York Tower, Older Women’s Network Co-op, and Performing Arts Lodge, all seniors’ residences on The Esplanade.
Again, this year Dixon Hall raised close to $35,000 from the Toronto Challenge with contributions from hundreds of St. Lawrence residents and special continuing support from TD Canada Trust, and the boards of the 3 non-profit seniors buildings, Old York Tower, Older Women’s Network, and Performing Arts Lodge, to help to meet the ever-increasing challenge of the growing seniors population. Congratulations, Dixon Hall.
