Crumbling silos to be demolished

The future of the Canada Malting Complex could see the wrecking ball as the crumbling silos may be too expensive to save.

There were plenty of questions and some emotion, but few answers as Coun. Adam Vaughan described the many problems facing the decaying structure at the Waterfront Community Centre on April 27 .

    “The big challenge is that the silos are in extraordinarily bad condition,” Vaughan told nearly 60 area residents attending the meeting.

    “The concrete is decomposing as we speak, the decay inside is quite extraordinary and to rescue the silos would be in the millions.”
