Community gets say on Dundas East tower

Dennis Hanagan–

City planners are studying a proposal to build a 29-storey condominium with 295 units at 219-231 Dundas East at George St. It calls for retail on the ground level and 4 levels of underground parking for cars and bikes. Planners held a meeting with the applicant and identified initial concerns they have including shadows affecting adjacent neighbourhoods and L’Ecole Publicque Gabrielle Roy and the tower’s potential impact on the helicopter flight path to St. Michael’s Hospital. The hospital receives some of its most critically ill patients by air ambulance. The proposal would have 29 3-plus bedrooms, 52 2-bedrooms and 195 1-bedrooms. The city’s official plan requires that 10% of the units be affordable rentals or affordable ownership. A community consultation meeting is scheduled for late this year.
