Call for marathon cheerleaders

Come out and cheer on runners on Oct. 19 as part of the 2014 Scotiabank Waterfront Marathon.

The St Lawrence Neighbourhood Association (SLNA) is once again assembling its award-winning cheering section for the route that passes through the neighbourhood.

The SLNA is one of 14 groups that organize a cheering section and compete for prizes.

Steve Lowden is organizing the cheering section for the SLNA.

“Our cheering section will extend along the south side of Front St. between Jarvis and Church streets.   Elite athletes will be coming through at around 10  a.m. with other runners making their way for the next few hours after that. “

The SLNA cheering section will be the last along the race route and is only one kilometer from the finish line.

Lowden asks, “Please come out and cheer on these amazing athletes. The top three neighbourhood cheering sections will win a cash prize for their charity of choice so your participation is vital.”

Prize money from the Cheerleading Challenge goes toward local school nutrition and youth programs in St Lawrence.

This is the 25th year of the race and thousands of runners will be participating.  Contact the SLNA at slna@slna.ca or visit www.slna.ca for more information.
