Aftermath of Queen St. fire

hundreds of bystanders stood silently in awe…

By Duncan McAllister –

DSC_3625It was ominously quiet along Queen St. east of Bathurst, as the street was closed to traffic after the fire that razed almost a whole block of heritage shops and homes to the ground in the early morning of Feb. 20.
City officials erected a fence across the north side of Queen to seal off the area.   One had to see the site first hand to appreciate the extent of the damage and hundreds of bystanders stood silently in awe as they took pictures and surveyed the devastation.
A trust fund has been established to benefit those made homeless as a result of the blaze, as plans get underway to rebuild.  Donations can be made to the Queen Street Fire Fund at any Scotiabank branch.
