A parkette grows in the Distillery

Public invited to RSVP for dedication

By Debbie Devgan –

The Gooderham and Worts Neighbourhood Association (GWNA) Inc. will be dedicating a garden and public space developed along the north side of Mill St. between Parliament and Trinity on Sept. 16 at 1 p.m.

The garden has been created through the initiative of numerous community members in conjunction with the cooperation and support of city staff, the West Don Lands committee, Pam McConnell’s office, and the Ontario Realty Corporation.

The neighbourhood assisted in the design and plant selection for this greening project. Substantial funds were raised for the purchase and installation of furniture (selected by the neighbourhood and approved by the city) for this great public space. The community has ensured that the garden be of the highest and most sustainable standards and design.

Mill St. is now lined with a lovely garden and public space that sends a message that people care about our growing neighbourhood. This is the type of project with communities and public agencies working together that has been championed by our mayor in his “Clean and Beautiful City Initiative”. This is a tremendous effort and is an inspiration not only to our neighbourhood but to the wider community as a whole.

Bill Graham, George Smitherman, and dignitaries including McConnell and the mayor have also been invited for the occasion.
