I am determined to eat my way around Augusta Ave. Two of us were meeting to try a hamburger spot. There was no air conditioning and the place was extremely hot. We started walking down the street to investigate all the outdoor patios. I had not noticed this one before. It is small. You order at a counter and then bring your food outside to tables or you can grab one of the few tables inside. I love finding new places and trying different food. Sometimes I am in the mood for dressing up and dining in style. La Tortilleria offers a different experience. Casual. Delicious. Informal. Augusta Ave is a wonderful people watching street. After dinner we walked up the street to the Dolce Gelato (the best gelato in town). It was fun to inspect all the patios as we strolled on the street.
I ordered the Quesadillas. You have choices for the filling. I considered cheese but opted for a vegetarian filling with added guacamole. Two large soft corn tortillas (gluten free) were stuffed with the filling. It was messy but oh so delicious.
My dining companion ordered the Mex-tras. A mixture of beef and spices on 4 tacos. We shared an order of hot sauce. It made the hair on my head stand up. But it was fantastic.
Beer and soft drinks are available. The menu is obviously limited. Quesadillas and a variety of tacos make up the menu. There are three types of tortillas. The menu is printed on a little blackboard. I loved every bite. I am soon running out of restaurants on this favorite street.
This is also a great take out place. It was the first tortilleria in the city. You can purchase Organic Blue Tacos by the pound. White Tortillas and homemade Nachos are also available to purchase. My favorite Salsa Verde is available as well as a Mole Sauce. I love the atmosphere of dining in Kensington Market. I can also see the benefit of purchasing these authentic Mexican ingredients for a fiesta at home.
