Interested in writing for TheBulletin.ca as a reporter or guest contributor?

We welcome inquiries from freelance or occasional writers (especially Downtown Toronto residents) who want to cover assignments or propose a beat.

Email careers@thebulletin.ca with your beat proposal and a link to your portfolio.

Guest contributors are also welcome to submit an article. The easiest way to contribute is to register for the site and use the “Submit Your Story” form that appears (for registered and logged-in users only) in the footer of every page on TheBulletin.ca. Read more about submissions here.

Your guest contributor submission must not overtly promote a business or other revenue-generating activity: this would instead fall under the category of sponsored content and would be handled by our sales department. Content provided by a guest contributor must be original and exclusive to TheBulletin.ca: re-works of PR content without new and unique source quotations—and/or content copied from another site (without proper attribution)—will not be accepted. A guest contributor must make a special effort to link the content to our coverage area. Please check our map or contact our editorial team for assistance in honing your local angle.

Current Opportunities:

Innovation and Inventions Reviewer

TheBulletin.ca, Downtown Toronto’s own independent community news site, is looking for a volunteer to cover local innovation hubs and the inventors and inventions coming from and impacting residents and businesses in our Downtown coverage area.

This opportunity is ideal for someone who is interested in new ideas and the people who think them and matches with someone who has free time after work or on the weekend. It is also ideal for a student writer who is looking to build a portfolio of articles about tech and innovation.

The commitment would be for at least two appropriate local articles per month. While TheBulletin.ca will support you with credentials and some leads, you will be responsible for identifying Downtown residents or inventions to profile. You may opt to meet with inventors and innovators in person or by phone and may even be able to produce articles via email interviews however we expect the content will be original and not a re-write of a crowdfunding web site or PR campaign.

Ideally you will live in the Downtown core, know something about startups or technology or engineering, have your own computer, know a little WordPress and be willing to write concisely and clearly.

Quality is more important than quantity — if you can do a good review in 200 words, great.

Press pass and all required accreditations will be provided.

We look forward to hearing from you.

Theatre Reviewers

TheBulletin.ca, Downtown Toronto’s own independent community news site, is looking for reviewers to cover live theatre events in the Downtown Toronto core.

Most of the shows that you will cover will be on weeknights after 6 p.m. Most will be located very close to transit (subway or streetcar).

Ideally you will live in the Downtown core, know something about theatre, have your own computer, know a little WordPress and are willing to write for tickets and bylines.

This is a great opportunity for someone who can write and who loves live theatre — you’ll be assigned previews and openings. We’ll ask you to turn in your article (via submission through our WordPress web site) within a day or two of seeing the show so that the review is up and available early in the run.

It’s also a great opportunity for freelancers (or publicists) to build a portfolio and a network.

Quality is more important than quantity — if you can do a good review in 200 words, great.

A press pass and all required accreditations will be provided.

We look forward to hearing from you.
