Escape the city and see more of Canada

Like most big cities around the world, Toronto has plenty of action to keep us entertained. However, sometimes working and playing in the same place all the time can mean that we need a break, and luckily, as the second-largest country in the world, there’s plenty for you to see right here. Unfortunately, flights overseas are often incredibly expensive, but with plenty of naturally beautiful and scenic areas on your doorstep, you don’t have to venture too far to experience travel. Of course, given that it’s such a big place, you’ll probably still need to fly, but you won’t need to worry about currency exchange, or learning a new language!

Banff, Alberta

Taking things back to basics doesn’t mean things need to get boring. Some of the most exciting places in the world shun modern technology, and speak volumes for themselves. In Banff, you can take advantage of some of the world’s most incredible scenery; the kind of beauty that has people trekking from all over the world just to see.

There’s plenty for the most active people to do, such as hiking, skiing or sailing, while more relaxed travelers can enjoy scenic boat cruises and sightseeing lifts. The things that you will see will make for the most amazing photographs, but don’t forget to live in the moment and make memories, too. Lake Louise is a highlight, and you’re going to want to remember that.

You’ll be able to refresh yourself from the daily grind, and you won’t believe that you’re still in the same country!

Niagara Falls

Niagara Falls is absolutely wonderful, and people from everywhere flock to the region to catch a glimpse for themselves. As some of the biggest – and certainly the most well-known – falls in the world, you absolutely cannot go without seeing them at least once in your life. The Canadian side offers a fun and informative boat ride called Maid of The Mist, but be warned – you will get very wet. When they offer you a plastic rain jacket, swallow your pride. It may not be the best fashion choice, but you’ll need it!

Drying off is easy, for those who want to get back on dry land. The Skylon Tower offers breathtaking views in the comfort of a fancy restaurant, so you can relax while enjoying delicious cuisine. Of course, no vacation is complete without a little entertainment, and the Niagara Fallsview Casino offers exactly that. With a mix of live shows and thousands of casino style games as you might expect, you will be spoiled for choice. Immersing yourself in everything that’s to offer is arguably the entire point of a vacation, and so to familiarize yourself with the kinds of games you might find on offer, you can click here to practice roulette, blackjack and even slots, so that you’re all prepped for arrival when you get there.

Thousand Islands, Toronto

If flying isn’t really your thing, and you want to stay a little closer to home for your weekend break, Thousand Islands offer a fantastic alternative, just a short three-hour drive from the city.

‘On one of 1000 Islands’ Marco Nürnberger.

You can explore the many islands which make up the area in a number of ways, and you can choose your given focus, depending on your interests. There are historical sights, sightseeing cruises, and informative tours of this unique collection of islands that have played their role along the US/Canadian border, throughout history.

Of course, you won’t be able to see it all, but you will be able to learn a lot about the area’s fascinating culture.

Canada is a huge country, so you will always have options. Just where will you begin?
