Song about pet loss to raise money for the Ontario SPCA

Ralph Hamelmann

VIDEO “Without Words” is a touching song inspired by the painful aftermath of losing my pet that will raise money for the Ontario SPCA and the Rainbow Association of Canadian Artists (RACA).

This recording is a follow up to RACA’s 2013 hit single “If You’re Not Here At Christmas” which was certified gold by Music Canada and hit #1 on SoundScan’s Canadian Singles Chart.

I’m the RACA Executive Director and I co-wrote this song with record producer Mark Zubek and Gemini Award winner Paul Bellini. We had an important message to share. “Pet loss is something that will affect the majority of us. And for most, these deaths are akin to losing a close family member. Despite this, most people go to work or school the next day and mourn in silence. Through our song, we wanted to give their feelings a voice.”Without-Words

But when you listen to “Without Words,” you’ll be hard-pressed to hear specific mention of animals. “By putting the sentiment of pet loss front and centre, rather than subject matter, we wanted to give our song a universal appeal. Some people are non-sympathetic to pet loss, but if they can relate to our song, we’re hoping they’ll gain a deeper understanding of this loss. Our messaging is very clear in the music video.”

“Without Words” is performed by the Spectra 2014 Singers, a multicultural vocal ensemble featuring 16 indie recording artists from Spectra Talent Contest, an 8-part TV series co-produced by Bell Media and RACA.

The Rainbow Association of Canadian Artists is a registered non-profit organization that celebrates diversity in musical expression. Through Spectra Talent Contest, RACA offers workshops, songwriting clinics and recording/performance opportunities to emerging singers of all walks.

“Without Words” will launch at World Pride and will be available on iTunes and Bandcamp on June 23, 2014. To purchase “Without Words,” please visit www.SpectraSingers.com
