Island airport potty trains taxi drivers

Airport claims drivers dirty airport washrooms. Look for additional fireworks at Aug. 27 9:30am TPA public meeting at Radisson Hotel, 249 Queens Quay W.

By Bulletin Staff –

Toronto Port Authority has barred taxi drivers from using their washroom facilities as of July 20. A series of bulletins issued by Antonella Tarantino, Ground Services Manager, alleges that taxi drivers dirty the washroom.

Tarantino’s July 16 bulletin says, “…washroom facilities have been made available to taxi drivers on the lower level of the Passengers transfer facility as a courtesy. There have been a number of incidents where a total disregard has been shown for these facilities and your fellow human beings.

“Urinating and defecating on the floor, walls, hand driers, etc., is not acceptable and will result in all taxis drivers being refused access to the building. This is the final warning.”

Things still didn’t work for Tarantino so she arranged to potty train the drivers with a field facility:

“Please be aware we have provided two portable washrooms that have been positioned at the top of the finger lot. The portable washrooms come with a sink. The procedure is that the washrooms will be under lock and key. They will be unlocked by ASP with the start of morning operations and locked at the end of the night. These units are for the use of taxi drivers and will be emptied twice weekly.  The cleanliness of these units will be the responsibility of the drivers and not TPA, please be respectful of the equipment supplied.”

The Toronto Port Authority is holding its Annual General Meeting on Monday, August 27, 9:30 a.m. at the Radisson at 249 Queens Quay West, where taxi workers will have an opportunity to “air their concerns” to the TPA Board of Directors.
