Gardiner proposal moves forward May 13

Dennis Hanagan —

A report about the Gardiner Expressway’s east end and what to do with it is expected to be heard at the city’s public works and infrastructure committee May 13.

A city and Waterfront Toronto project team have been conducting an environmental assessment of the stretch between Lower Jarvis and Leslie St.

At one point they favoured turning that stretch into a boulevard with eight traffic lanes, sidewalks, cycling trails, retail and 1200 new trees. It was one of four options.

However, last year the city told the team to look at a fifth option called “the hybrid”—keep the Gardiner from Jarvis to Cherry with “a new expressway function” from Cherry east to the Don Valley Parkway.
